Respiratory Care

The Respiratory Care department provides around-the-clock services for all patients.AARC Logo The department assists patients of all age groups with many different types of breathing disorders and problems—in all stages of diseases.

Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCPs) work with physicians and other health professionals in healthcare planning, evaluation and treatment of patients with cardiac and pulmonary disorders. They also assist patients and their families with instruction on respiratory home care therapy and associated equipment.

As clinicians they perform therapeutic and life support procedures as well as diagnostic tests that assess cardiac and lung function.

Many of RUHS Medical Center's RCPs are cross-trained to work in more than one critical care environment, and have their Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). All RCPs are licensed through the California Respiratory Care Board. The Respiratory Care department also trains allied health professionals and is affiliated with San Joaquin Valley College and Crafton Hills College.
